haste and waste

My Grandmother always used to say, "Haste makes waste!" She also had a framed, counted cross-stitched hanging above her gas stove that read, "The hurrieder I am the behinder I get."
All this from a woman who wasted nothing! Not in her kitchen, not in her yard, and most certainly not in her sewing room.

This week I stole away into my own room of sewing for just a few spare moments. While I was cutting out the pattern, I looked down to see all of my waste. Could I have adjusted the fabric in order to avoid all of the excess? Wasn't there another fold that would have prevented this remnant?
Grandmother! What would she say? (gasp!)

Happy St. Patty's!

I started my day with a smoothie that was trying to be green (bad spinach to strawberry ratio), sliced kiwi, and coffee with green sprinkles, of course.
Mmm...

Sew Mama Sew offers some great fabrics of green! Enjoy!

March's featured items

Introducing...featured items in the Etsy shop for March!
:Wares for wee babes:

This is one of my favorite designs for boys. The water beneath this floating boat is a soft, blue flannel.

I found the vintage fabric containing this unique flower at an antique store in the small town south of where we live. I can hardly bear to cut it, so this is all that I could part with for right now. Give me some time!

This citrus slice was inspired by a custom order last spring. The "rind" fabric is a revived vintage sheet.

And finally we have an in-house model to show how adorable these onesies can really be!
